The name of Bollinger’s emblematic champagne encapsulates its entire history. It was the British agent of Georges Bollinger who, in 1911, christened it “Special Cuvée”, as he found the expression “non-vintage brut” did not befit a champagne of such subtlety. Over a century later, the name of the champagne emblematic of Bollinger’s expertise still encapsulates its entire history.
Special Cuvée is composed of over 85% Grand and Premier crus of the three main Champagne varieties: 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier.
The winemaking of Bollinger Special Cuvée is a precise alchemy steeped in tradition. The exclusive use of the cuvée (first pressing) and a moderate dosage between 7 and 8 g/liter allow the purity and finesse of the Champagne to shine. Extended maturation in the cellar underscores Bollinger’s commitment to excellence, revealing a Champagne of remarkable structure and complexity.
Its cellar aging, twice as long as the appellation standards, and the use of reserve wines kept for up to 15 years in magnums, give this Champagne its depth and aromatic richness.
