2022 Valravn Zinfandel Sonoma County

Crafted from heritage vines, many 40 years old and some over a century, in the rugged soils of Sonoma County including parcels in Dry Creek Valley and the Russian River AVA, the 2022 Valravn Zinfandel presents a dynamic expression of old-vine character. Fermented with a cold soak and matured for about ten months in a thoughtful mix of French oak barrels, the wine reveals a deep ruby color and an aromatic profile of brambly blackberries, raspberry liqueur, and spiced rhubarb. On the palate, it is lush and bold yet energetic, layered with dark fruit, licorice, Mexican chocolate, sweet spice, and tobacco, all balanced by a tactile freshness and finely woven tannins. This Zinfandel pairs beautifully with grilled lamb chops, smoky barbecue ribs, aged Gouda or cheddar, or a hearty mushroom and beef ragù. It is delicious now but will also reward short-term aging.
