2022 Shypoke Twin Rock Zinfandel, Mendocino

The 2022 Shypoke “Twin Rock” Zinfandel, Mendocino is a distinctive old-vine Zinfandel sourced from organically farmed vineyards planted in 1945 on a rugged ridge of red volcanic soils and rock, a site that contributes both concentration and remarkable aromatic lift. Crafted by Peter Heitz, the wine balances the generous fruit typical of California Zinfandel with uncommon elegance and freshness.

The nose is vibrant and expressive, offering aromas of blackberry, raspberry, ripe cherry, white pepper, baking spice, and wildflowers.

On the palate it is full-bodied yet refined, with layers of dark berry fruit, plum, licorice, and subtle oak spice supported by silky tannins and lively acidity.

The volcanic terroir adds a savory mineral edge that carries through a long, polished finish. Rich without being heavy, it pairs beautifully with grilled meats, barbecue, braised short ribs, and aged cheeses, while its balance and complexity allow it to shine on its own.
