Honig 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Producer Background
Honig Vineyard & Winery is a family-run estate located in Napa Valley’s renowned Rutherford region. The Honig family began producing wine under their own label in 1980 and have since become known for crafting high-quality, sustainably farmed wines. Today, under the leadership of Michael Honig and winemaker Kristin Belair, the winery is especially respected for its Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon offerings, as well as its deep commitment to environmental stewardship.
Grape & Farming Practices
This wine is made primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Sirah added for complexity. The fruit is sourced from the Honig estate in Rutherford and select Napa Valley vineyards. Honig is a leader in sustainable viticulture, using practices such as solar power, cover cropping, composting, integrated pest management, and habitat preservation to promote biodiversity and minimize their ecological footprint.
Winemaking & Style
Each vineyard block is fermented and aged separately before blending, allowing for greater precision and balance. The wine is aged in a mix of French and American oak barrels, with a portion of new oak used to add structure and spice. The 2022 vintage is expressive and approachable, with generous fruit, well-integrated tannins, and enough acidity to keep it lively. While ready to drink now, it will reward short- to medium-term cellaring.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of blackberry, red plum, and dark cherry are supported by secondary notes of cocoa, baking spice, black tea, and a hint of toasted oak. The palate is rich yet balanced, with smooth tannins and a long, satisfying finish. This wine delivers classic Napa Valley character with a polished, modern edge.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with a range of robust, savory dishes such as:
