2017 Domaine Economou Oikonomoy Assyrtiko PGI Crete

The 2017 Domaine Economou Oikonomoy Assyrtiko PGI Crete is a refined and distinctive white wine from the eastern Crete plateau of Ziros, crafted by Domaine Economou under the direction of Yiannis Economou. Made from 100% Assyrtiko grapes grown on old, ungrafted vines and farmed with minimal intervention, the wine is fermented spontaneously and aged in used oak barrels without fining or filtration, allowing it to develop a deep and expressive character.

On the nose it reveals aromas of dried apricot, quince, citrus peel, beeswax and Mediterranean herbs, layered over a backdrop of saline minerality.

On the palate it is textured yet lively, with ripe fruit, vibrant acidity, gentle tannins and a long mineral‑driven finish that hints at honeyed notes and a light oxidative complexity.

 This wine pairs beautifully with grilled sea bass or sustainably‑caught fish, roasted chicken with herbs, rich shellfish like langoustine, or creamy goat cheeses—foods that can stand up to its depth while complementing its saline, textural elegance.
