The 2008 Martinelli Jackass Vineyard Zinfandel is a powerful and opulent red wine from Sonoma County’s legendary Jackass Hill Vineyard, home to some of the steepest and oldest Zinfandel vines in California. These century-old vines produce very low yields, resulting in wines of remarkable concentration and depth.
In the glass, the 2008 vintage displays a deep ruby color and opens with intense aromas of ripe blackberry, raspberry liqueur, dried cherry, and baking spices, layered with notes of smoke, cedar, and a touch of pepper.
The palate is full-bodied and richly textured, offering lush dark fruit framed by balanced acidity and smooth, velvety tannins. Despite its power, it maintains a sense of elegance and persistence, leading to a long, warming finish.
This Zinfandel pairs beautifully with grilled steak, barbecued short ribs, roasted lamb, or aged cheeses, making it a bold and memorable expression of old-vine Sonoma fruit.
