This wine comes from the estate of veteran winemaker Ric Forman, produced under the “La Grande Roche” label, which is his second-label bottling designed to express quality at a more accessible level than his flagship cuvée. It’s a blend of roughly 82 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 18 % Cabernet Franc, aged for about 22 months in once-used Bordeaux-style barrels, and it clocks in at 14.8 % alcohol.
On the nose there are notes of currant, black cherry, and baking spices, with subtle dusty herbal and earthy undertones. On the palate it shows elegant tannins, bright acidity, and a spirited energy, with flavors of dark fruit (blackberry, black cherry, cassis), gentle spice, and a touch of savory or herbal lift, finishing with persistence and clarity.
This wine pairs well with richer meats like grilled or roasted beef or lamb, game, hearty stews, or strong cheeses. Serve at around 60-62 °F to enjoy its full depth.
