The world has given us many dynamic duos, Batman and Robin, Sonny and Cher, the adding of Milo to milk…enter Yetti and the Kokonut. David Geyer (Yetti) and Koen Janssens (Koko) met in 2015 and set forth to experiment with grapes in exciting new ways, think of it as drinking outside of the box.
The Mt. Savagnin orange wine comes from the Jura original grape Savagnin, once thought to be Albariño in southern Australia. Grapes are sourced from a 17 year old biodynamically certified site in Tatachilla, McLaren Vale The vineyard straddles an old creek bed bringing just enough underground moisture to keep the vines happy and healthy and also with exposure to the sea for a cooling wine helping to keep mildew to a minimum.
The grapes see a native fermentation in stainless steel, skin contact for 5 days, then aged in 25hL French oak. After 6 months, the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with just a touch of sulfur before bottling. The nose here is extremely fresh, laden with mandarin, white mint, apricot and briny notes. The palate has a powdery texture, with bright, clean acidity, and a lengthy, delicious finish.
